From a fellow geek.....I have a Compaq CQ70 from PC World, it came with Vista Home and I did an online legitimate upgrade from the Microsoft website to W7.

My laptop blue screened last week and I had to do a factory restore back to Vista.

How can I get my W7 upgrade back, surely I won't have to pay for it again. I don't have any back up disks or hard copies of W7 at all.

I managed to recover everything i.e pics, videos, music and emails, but I'm stuck as to how to get back from the factory Vista to W7 again.

Is there anyone who can offer any advise.

Thanks
Jason

My best advice is to call up Microsoft, I'm sure they've dealt with this issue a few times.

When you purchased the upgrade, did you get a win 7 product key/license?
Maybe do you have a receipt of the purchase?

If not, good luck trying to convince MS that you had a valid copy of Win7.

You shoudl have the email receipt with Product Key. Now you need to find or download again the installer for your licensed version.

You should burn the ISO to DVD or write to flash stick after download so you have it for reinstalls and repairs.

There was no reason to restore Vista. You can reinstall Upgrade to a formatted HD. The booted installer will see an OS and allow use of Upgrade Key, or use the workaround to install to blank HD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31402-clean-install-upgrade-windows-7-version.html

As stated, best move is to save externally a Win7 backup image so you can reimage the HD in 15 minutes using DVD or Repair CD.

Sorted, phoned microsoft and they managed to find my original order etc so I have downloaded again. ta for your help.

Im geeky, just got a bad memory for backing up. lol
