I am having problems getting my speakers to produce sound through the Realtek HD Digital output. All of the sound works properly with the "Speakers" output, but when I try and switch over to the HD digital output no sound comes out of the speakers. I can see the green lines going up and down, but no sound is coming out of the speakers. I have uninstalled and updated the driver and it still does not work. Please help. Thank you.

What are you running the digital output into?

Do your speakers have an s/pdif digital input? If you're not using a digital receiver or a device with a digital input (it's hard to tell from your post) you won't get any sound.

What speaker system are you using? Do they have a built in DAC or is there an A/V receiver in the chain?

My Z-5500 convert automatically but I need to select coax. input, I assume you would know this though.

What do you think?
Ok here is what I have set up going from the back of my computer:

I have a stereo RCA going out of the back of the computer into 2 (left and right) Mackie powered studio monitors. The inputs on the monitors are RCA. I also have a TRS input on the monitors, but I feel like that shouldn't be necessary. The RCA works fine coming out of the "speakers" output of the computer.

Everything is set up exactly the same as the regular "Speakers" output (which the sound works properly) except I just bought a stereo RCA adapter for the HD digital output.

Like I said, everything looks like it is working in the computer. The computer recognizes the HD output as default and I can see the green lines moving up and down for sound, but no sound is coming out of the speakers. And I know the speakers are working.

What is a "stereo RCA adapter" for the digital output. Is it just a cable?

I think you may misunderstand what "digital output" is, and how it's meant to be used.

Your speakers have analog inputs.... they accept electrical/voltage based input that's already been converted from digital to analog by the DA converters in your sound card.

Digital output is pre converter, it will not work with your speakers which have only analog inputs.
