I there folks

I've been trouble-shooting a problem with my PC not allowing games to connect to the net even though I can surf the net (see this http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/156227-games-cannot-connect-net.html )

I think (with help :) ) I've narrowed the issue down to my network adapter, the Realtek RTL8190 802.11n Wireless LAN (mini-)PCI NIC. I have searched the net for help on troubleshooting this device with no joy. Does anyone have experience with this device or know anything that could help?

Many thanks in advance!

DX info added for reference....

Since Realtek's website provided me with as much useful information as an alapaca would have, is it possible for you to try a different wireless adapter in this machine? Also, did you try hard wiring into your router itself, and determining that that isn't the faulty/restrictive device? (rather than straight into the router, as suggested in the other thread)

Hi there

Thanks for reading first off. I only have the 1 adapter for this pc available atm. And I took the network cable and ran it from the ethernet adapter on the mainboard and disabled the Realtek device altogether. I would be tempted to just go with a wired connection if it were not for the fact the phone line comes in to the wrong side of the house (dumb builders!)

Anyways, since the pc is only 4 months old I would of thought the adapter would of been of at least a reasonable quality since I purchased it new from the high street retailer. I just tried changing channels on the router to see if that would help with no effect :(

Cheers!

Have you forwarded the correct ports on your router to let the game work?

There are ports you have to forward back to your PCs IP address for the game to communicate back into your network.

Please tell us the make and model of the router and the game/s you are trying to play.

Hi there,
I went to a website suggested (PFConfig) and manually set up port forwarding according to the ports listed for the games and router.

I have -
router - BT Home Hub 2.0A from BT (British Telecom)

And I am working on getting Steam from Valve working and Battlefield Heroes. I chose these as they are fairly standard of the online games on offer these days.

Cheers!

Given that it worked with a hard line, I'd assume that port forwarding isn't the issue (not trying to shut you down. Just pointing out an observation)

Groo: I would personally suggest picking up an inexpensive wireless adapter, or borrowing one from a friend and using that to test it. I'm somewhat agreeing with the conclusion that it's your Realtek device, but without any ability to test the wireless otherwise, it's very difficult to say.

Ok after RE-Reading this thread and going over to your other thread this to me sounds more like some kind of firewall setting.
When you got this PC were all the drivers installed for the wireless card or did you install them?
You say you're using a BT Home Hub and that is both a modem and a router, correct? (just looked it up).

Been reading about this BT Home Hub. It seems a lot of people have had problems getting things to work on the wireless side of this unit. One about games on a XBox 360, he had to turn on UPNP. The other I've read was about someone setting up a Airport Express, worked on the wired side but when moved to wireless it stopped working.

A google search turns up a lot on this.

So I would suspect it is not your wireless card in/on your computer but that Home Hub unit.
Is there anyway to set this unit into Bridged Ethernet mode and then put a real good wireless router in the mix.
