My computer recovered last eve from a unexpected shutdown. Its a brand new install. It also had a message in the tray telling me that there was a problem with how I have my updates set. It makes me uncomfortable because I use that system to do renderings that take 8 hours sometimes.
Are there ways to tell windows that I dont want it rebooting to get its way about updates. - Altho it might be something else.. So I am putting this in the General thread not the update thread.

because you are run a Dell you will have the option to run diagnostics on your system. Random shutdowns and restarts could be a number of things like Memory, failing hard drives and overheating and the such. To run diagnostics follow the instructions here Using the Dell Diagnostics If it is Windows Updates restarting your system! Here is a trick that's been around for some time. Stop Windows from Restarting Your Computer After Updates Keep us up to date. Just for a visual, here are some pic I took of my Dell System diagnostics.

It sounds like a hardware issue. Run my suggested diagnostics.
