Reboot W7 to log in second user profile

Hi everyone,

I have 2 users on my computer operated by Windows 7. When logged in the first user account I have to reboot W7 in order to access the second user and vice versa.

Please advice.

Haven't you got in the <start menu> buttons the option Tab to switch users?

Why do you have to reboot? What happens if you use the "log off" or "switch user" option in the start menu?

Second user profile

In order to access the second user profile I log off the current account and click the second user icon. W7 opens a complete new desktop and I get the message "Preparing your desktop" as if I was creating a completely new user instead of getting me to my second profile. It doesn't make any sense. To access the second profile I have to reboot.

Your second user profile could be corrupted. To test, create a new user of the same type as the second, then try switching between first and third users.

You can also try the steps for fixing a corrupt profile.

I tried this already. Any additional profiles won't load unless W7 reboots.

Does the same thing happen if you boot into safe mode? What are you running as far as security type apps? Have you done anything in the group policy editor?

EDIT: Clean install or an upgrade? When did you first notice this problem, was it always like this?

My security software is F-Secure.
I had this issue ever since the beginning.
I am not a computer geek so I have not edited any Reg. or messed with W7.
I tried the same copy of W7 on a laptop (clean install) with the same results.
Killing the patient without cure won't do any good. It looks like I will have to live with my Microsoft problem. This is just a minor bug, no big deal.

I had this problem on my old machine. Luckily on my new system it hasn't happened yet.
Unluckily I never found a solution other than a reinstall sorry

Is your install media an original Microsoft DVD and is it the final release?
