Hi guys,

I don't actually have any noticeable problems but i did amend some keys relating to the registry key assigned to my wireless adaptor, all is working fine though but i know myself that i changed something which annoys me...

I want to rebuild the registry but don't have a floppy, can this be done? Or should i not worry that something was deleted?

Hello,

If you are concerned, try a System Restore to a previous point. That should revert your registry to before the change.

You can then create a backup of your registry. In Regedit, under File>Export

Hope this helps,

No thanks, system restore is something i would never dream of using for obvious reasons.

I was asking to rebuild the registry not create more problems by using restore, as i prefer to keep a well maintained single copy of my files and format if needed.

I know the registry can by exported, renamed and then rebuilt from dos but i dont have a floppy.

Go ahead and try a System Restore. First, there is a feature in Windows 7 that allows you to scan for affected programs. This will become clear as soon as you start the process.

If you are concerned, it also allows you to create a restore point before restoring, in case you want to go back to your current configuration.

You can also do it manually: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/697-system-restore-point-create.html

If you still do not want to do a System Restore, I can understand. However, I feel you might change your mind once you start the process.

Hope this helps,
~JK

ill leave it as it is guys, nothing has been affected i just modified/deleted un-needed connections within

{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

As when i was setting up my connection it took several attempts so ended up creating several keys for Connection 1 2 3 4 5 and so on.

Wonder if i deleted the whole entry for

{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

Would it rebuild on reboot?

It is possible, many keys rebuild. Please note: NOT ALL DO. I would create a restore point first, reboot making sure you are happy and the machine is working correctly. Then delete the whole key and reboot. If nothing works or it did not rebuild then you can restore your restore point and you are right back to where you were.

This is a good reason to make system images of your hard drive...it takes less than 15 minutes to restore an image, and you dont have to worry about messing up your registry... forewarned is forarmed.
