Receive Notification: Consider Changing Your Password

Hello:

I was upgrading Openoffice today. I currently have three accounts set up - a admin account and two standard accounts. The two standard accounts have no password set up. After the installation, I went to go to the other accounts to attempt to open Openoffice. It came up fine. But, one notification appeared when I first started the two user accounts. It appeared for around three seconds or so. It said to consider changing your password, it will expire within five days. What does this mean? Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks! I disabled the password change feature. However, on the second link you send me the box that says users must enter a user name and password to use this computer is checked. However, I can still get in the other accounts fine without a password. Is this something I should be concerned about? Or, can I disregard the second link? Thanks once again!

5. To Change the User Account to Automatically Log On to -
NOTE: For this step, you would have already had a user account selected to log on to automatically in step 3.

A) Check the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box, and click on the Apply button. (See screenshot below step 3A)

B) Select the other user account name, that you want to have automatically log on at startup instead, to highlight it.

C) Uncheck the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box. (See screenshot below step 3C)

D) Click on OK. (See screenshot below step 3C)

I feel that there is probably no problem. I hesitate to give a definite answer in the event that a few days from now you cannot log on. In lieu of a yes or a no, Read this and create a password reset disc. This way in the event of a problem you can still log on.

Looks fine to me! I'll put the password key on my external hard drive.

I have never heard of putting it on a hard drive. But why not try yourself? Put is on a hard drive and test it. If works you know you will always have it in the event of a problem. In my many posts I have read many, that the poster wishes that he had one.

"I lost my password etc" In that case unfortunately the advice that we are able to give is limited, due to obvious reasons.

It looked like it worked. For some reason it wouldn't write to my external hard drive though. So, I plugged in an old MP3 player that's also a removable drive. It made a .psw file. Would I use this file if I needed to recover the password? Thanks once again!

It would be my suggestion that you test everything under emergecy conditions. Use the .psw file and see if it works. I am very glad to give you all the information that you want, but, in this situation, I feel it is best to test it. I felt very content and happy to see that you gave me rep, because I knew that I had helped. I would feel mopre than bad to give you information that, even if valid, did not work. Try the password reset onf .psw, then we will know for sure.

Remember, the help that you will receive from us in the event that you are locked out due to a password, will be very limited.

You should be ok. If you have any doubt, back it up. The 5 minutes you spend now, may save a lot of anquish in the future. Whatever you decide, I wish you years of stress free computer use.
