I just ordered all the new parts that are under my system specs. Everything registered with BIOS and everything is great and healthy. I created a RAID 0 and both drives were reading as healthy according to RAID. WHen i went to choose my partition (after loading raid drivers) it showed aprox 3tb unallocated space as one drive as RAID should but when made one partition of 50gb it had 2 unallocated spaces of 2tb and 746gb. i could not create primary partition on 746gb space. Either way i tried installing on the partition i created and received an error saying it can not create a new partition or an existing one cannot be found and to check setup logs for more information. Where can i find these logs???? I am installing via usb. Also does anyone have any tips or anything i can try differently? i disabled raid and reformatted and tried installing just to one of the drives and still received the error. i bought my windows off ebay and it says its upgrade from win vista business to win 7 professional but the seller assured me it is full install for win 7 as well. please help!

It looks as though you've been stung by your E-bay seller.

An upgrade version of Windows 7 is just that and you need a qualifying version of Windows such as Vista already installed before you can use the Windows 7 DVD.

A retail version of Windows 7 allows you to carry out a clean install of Windows and it will also most likely allow you to use it for a Windows Anytime Upgrade to upgrade from, for example, Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional.

What you can't have is a Windows 7 DVD that is both an upgrade version and the full retail version........it has to be one or the other.

I think you need to contact the person who sold you the Windows DVD to give you what you thought you were buying. Failing that, you need to open a case of miss-selling with E-bay.

yeah i was thinking the same thing but the seller has massive good reviews and has sold the same product to others who said it works great even though they were skeptical with the cd not saying full installation. could there have been a problem when creating the iso and putting on my usb?

Well, not exactly.

1) You just need to own a previous, qualifying version of windows (XP or vista) to use the upgrade disk legally, it doesnt necessarily have to be installed.

2) Upgrade disks can do a clean install. A registry workaround is required and is perfectly legal.

If you have any available retail copy of XP or Vista then you qualify to use Upgrade version and can clean install it using one of the workarounds given here: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Try unplugging one HD, make sure it registers in BIOS, BIOS is up to date, and SATA controller is set to AHCI first to try install, then IDE if fail. Set BIOS to optimal defaults.

Let us know the exact behavior of the install following these steps and any error messages verbatim: Clean Install Windows 7

awesome you guys have been a tremendous help already i had no idea what to try next now i have a few things to try i will follow up with results after i get off and get some time to tinker with it tonight.

I personally would stay away from RAID & dynamic partition, as it seems to more problems than it is worth.

Hello enoell, welcome to Seven Forums!

Use a single connected HDD and create a single Primary partition to do the install to, you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

Have a look at steps number 9 and 10 for additional information if you continue to have issues getting the install started, in this tutorial linked below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

The registry workaround has to be done after windows is installed.

What procedure are you following for clean install? You have to follow this procedure

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

keeping the "Automatically activate when online" box unchecked. After that, follow option 3 in the following tut.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31402-clean-install-upgrade-windows-7-version.html

If theres an error, either the disk is bad or the iso is bad. try burning the iso again at lowest speed. You can also google and download disks off the web.

yeah im thinking its the iso because at step 8 where you select the partition to install to i get an error saying. "Setup was unable to create a system partition or locate an existing partition." and to please check setup logs for more information. I tried this with RAID setup and without RAID. and i could see the unallocated space to choose from on both drives and keep getting error. any other ideas for me to try if its not the iso?

i will try with one hard drive connected ive read in other forums that if the flash drive is ahead in boot priority it causes problems for the install i will check the bios settings for that when i get back because my issue is i can see the partition to select to install and it simply wont do it and receive the error mentioned in previous posts.

Set the HD first to boot in BIOS setup.

Then trigger the USB flash stick installer to boot using one-time BIOS Boot Menu Key:
Asus - F8
HP/Compaq - Esc
Sony - F2
Acer - F12
Gateway - F10
eMachnes - F10
Toshiba - F12
Dell - F12
IBM/Lenovo - the blue Thinkvantage button
