Morning my time Ken,

How long have you had this problem?

It is possible that the following may apply to you????

Network and server problems

If you are receiving duplicates of your mail, the cause may be technical difficulty along the delivery path. Either a network connection is having problems, or one of the computers along the route is very slow or having other system problems.

Explanation

Most mail delivery protocols and programs are conservative. If they are unsure whether a mail message was successfully passed along to the next computer on the network, the sender will try to send it again. If the message
was passed along successfully the first time, the second attempt will produce a second copy of the same message, and you will likely receive both copies.
On large networks such as the Internet, a mail message must usually pass through several different computers before it reaches its final destination. This problem can potentially occur at any computer along the way.
A synchronization problem in the SMTP mail delivery protocol, which is used by most mail programs on the Internet, can make this error more likely.

Unfortunately, there is no real solution to this, except to wait until the problem on the network is resolved.

I only installed Outlook a 4 days ago and the messages were duplicated from the start. The duplication varies between 25 copies of a message down to 4 copies, with 8 being the norm for the last day or two.

I have used Live Mail in the same account and received the same messages with no duplication.

I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem, but it sometimes helps to delete all messages on server. One corrupt message can cause Outlook to receive multiple copies of your messages.

This is because how Outlook checks the mail. Outlook reads the POP3 mailbox on server, from oldest new message to the latest. When all messages are read, and only then, it flags the messages read and delete's them if user has so chosen. If something interrupts this process before Outlook has reached the last message and flagged messages read, it reads the same messages as new again next time.

This must not be your case, though.
