Recommend a new Graphics card please

My ATI HD4800 is feeling it's age a bit but I know it was quite good in it's day.
What would be the equivalent or better now?
I'm mainly running music software, Photoshop and some video editing on Vegas.
No gaming to speak of but I would like the card to display quickly and preferably with passive cooling.

Something like this will do the trick if you want to stay with Radeon/AMD. I use one of these in my office PC, and it's a solid performer.

Just make sure that you have adequate case cooling, because it does get rather warm.

Is there any reason that you want a fanless card? You're really limiting yourself, performance-wise with a fanless. They are good for HTPC rigs and office PCs, but for a lot of home users a fanless card is not quite up to the task. Particularly if you want to play any games.

Got an Asus latest Rx graphics card with Amd...it does embedded the 0dB Fan technology (better disable GPU Renderer in Internet Options for accuracy).

There's three of them existing from many brands : RX460, RX470, RX480, they also come cheaper.

For heavy stuff treatments is Amd Fire Pro line...but cost an eye.

Personally I run the GTX 650i's in my three desktops and like yoou do not like noisy components and they are as quite a s I reckon you can get one.

As for AMD I did have their graphics first up but got fed up with the constant issues with them so changed to NVidia on the advice of a long passed mate of mine and have never regretted it.

I am on the edge of a new build and am sticking in an Asus GTX 750i https://www.asus.com/au/Graphics-Cards/GTX750TIOC2GD5/ simply because I cannot find the 650i at a decent price.

The OP would not gaming, at that state i do not think it bothers much which brands...Asus is an example like the other brands. He's looking mainly to silent card but powerful one for editing.

I do trust Asus for their phases of vrm's and solid capacitors, some like Msi for their Twin Frozr system, others Sapphire etc...

I understand so many flavors are on the market, it can be wise to ask different views.

Basically asus bites at high resolutions but you really have to have another to really tell but using NVidia control panel if you have a monitor that is capable of using 144hz and have gpu tweak a asus crappy utility the resolution will be horrible if you try to go to 144hz

It's okay using msi afterburner but my evga 980 is pretty awesome and g-sync ready too for another monitor I have
Some asus product are good no doubt but asus as far as gpu's isn't one of them imho but I suppose it depends on what you want and how you want to use it
These things are not cheap so why settle asus gpu's pretty much cost the same as other brands so why settle for poorer performance I won't anymore

By the way most gpu's are quite but they do it by the fans only come on when they hit a temperature I believe was 79c
I let it run at 39c they are still pretty quiet but that too depends on the fan quality

TBH, I'm not after blazing games performance but I do like speed around the progs I'm using
(Cubase, Vegas, Photoshop etc)

Looks great that card but a bit hefty price-wise for my needs, I'm going to stick to a £150 budget.
I think my HD4800 was about £100 when I got it.
I do have a game of Doom now and again but I could run that off a 50 watt light bulb

Bottom line how ever you use it really does not matter it will be the hottest object in your computers case
Even a cpu has a dedicated fan and will probably be the loudest object outside of other closer to you case fans

It's true sometimes Asus GPU Tweak II have some bugs on their versions. actually the latest one works fine with Amd.

Some sites says that RX460 & RX470 will see their prices down due to GTX1060...worth a look if you stick Amd. Plus it can be on your budget. Prefer custom cards.

On the screenshot here's my default fan settings for them not to trigger before a certain Temp, it can be customized. (provided as example!):

Yep the only good thing is asus gpu's work okay with msi afterburner instead
But pity a evga 980 reference card works better than a top of the line "when it was released" asus 980 gpu :mad2:
Only other good thing is they cost the same the asus was lowered quite a bit 150.us

Well never had any problems with my Asus cards but there again I don't game that much and very simple at that. I have watched Youtube high end game clips and frankly I have to be honest and say I either have very bad eyes (my doc says they are perfect) or perhaps the clips don't go for long enough to get into strife.

I always remember Gary who we all miss advised me NVidia and Asus and didn't like MSI for anything so that is why I have stuck with them.

I never said asus gpu's aren't okay just others are better and nearly the same price
Doug has been pretty happy with his msi cards I've never had one though.

John, I agree with ThrashZone. Asus makes some good cards, until you need tech support, but the cards are good ones. As far as I am concerned, I don't buy anything except EVGA. There's nothing wrong with Asus cards and Dude is quite happy with his MSI card. But, EVGA is the #1 seller of Nvidia cards for a reason. They make an excellent product and have probably the best Tech support in the industry.
