Another vote for the Xbox controller, either wired or wireless. As Paul said for games that support gamepads, in most cases they just work with the Xbox controller. I have used Logitech gamepads in the past and while they work great, there are/can be games where it isn't detected properly and can takes some playing around in the settings to get it to work properly (if at all).

Another Xbox360. It just works. For games that do not support controllers at all, XPadder is great.

I too have a Logitech that works many times, but can be hit or miss with some games even though the have controller support.

Another vote for a xbox controller, have one myself for racing and platform games/fighting games with combos mainly. Works with pretty much almost every game out there out of the box. I use a wired controller though.

Yes, for racing games a controller is a must. Trying to drive using the arrow keys on the keyboard is not much fun

Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 with Eneloop AAs. Good range and long battery life. Also nice custom macro features for combos etc. Pro tip: get an extra set of Eneloop AAs so you never have to wait for them to charge. ;) They usually come in a 4-pack anyway. Or of course just get a corded one if you don't need/want cordless.

But yeah, I typically use mouse and keyboard for gaming on PC. You get faster and more fine control with a mouse. As others have mentioned though, controllers are better for some games.
