Hello, TL;DR: a major Microsoft Edge update has deleted my Edge favorites, can I recover them?

Today, I finally installed a "recommended" update that was sitting in Windows Update for months, as I have begun to use Microsoft Edge a bit more, lately. However, after being prompted to reboot to finish the update and to check it out, I noticed that my favorites in that browser were gone.
Yet, some things have not been changed: - my "Collections," although I do not know how they differ from Favorites, outside of looking prettier.
- My history of the past three months, which makes the loss slightly less dramatic.
- Various settings, such as Hardware Acceleration and address bar search engine.
But the Favorites bar and "Other favorites" are empty. (The first thing that the new "Welcome to Edge" tutorial tells me to do is "Find your favorites." :sarc:)

According to installed updates in Display Panel, the update code should be KB4567409, "Update for the new Microsoft Edge for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1: June 17, 2020," about 80 Mb. (Also mentioned here KB4567409 Update for new Microsoft Edge for Windows 7 and 8 - June 17)

I have read of similar problems but the threads involve folders related to Windows 10, such as "%LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Spartan_cw5n1h2txyewy\AC\Spartan\User\Default\Favorites."

I have never imported favorites from other browsers to Edge, and I believe I never "logged in" to an Edge profile.
"Show favorites bar" is set to "Always"
The Users>username>Favorites folder only shows my Internet Explorer favorites, no Edge favorites.
When it comes to my System Restore settings, the feature says that the system protection is disabled, but I checked in System Properties, it says "System protection" is "enabled" in my local drive, and the middle option is checked ("Only restore previous versions of files"), set at 1%, with 0 bytes currently used. Perhaps it did not make any restore point because I currently have low disk space.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Did you manage to recover your favorites?
I thank you for your time.

Update: I have found a file called Bookmarks.bak, with an Edit date of about two weeks ago, after opening it with Notepad, it does seem contain many of my bookmarks. Would it be safe to remove the "bak" and replace the current "Bookmarks" with it? I am glad I saved that file as soon as I opened the new Edge, because after closing Edge and reopening it, there is only the "Bookmarks" file left, no "bak" version.
