I can't seem to figure out how to use ANY program to record my computer speakers...in other words i want to record the audio of this youtube video because it has epic music i can't find anywhere else. when i use the pre-installed programs "sound recorder" no sound actually records. When i use WMM i cannot choose audio mix, only realtek high definition line in or something like that.

Thanks

Had the same problem. Audacity cured it. Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder

same thing....

and yes i installed lame and whatever else there was in that download list

Im guessing your sound has a headphone, and a mic right? if so you can get a stereo mini cable male>>>male and plug speaker into mic and audacity can adj volume etc. had an old laptop that was the same way. It sounds lame but it works. btw if you want to listen while recording get a min stereo splitter plug headphone in one cable to mic in the other

No problem :)

Just a little extra info, if you want to retain audio quality, it's better to download the Youtube video file directly (there's a host of ways, but Firefox with the DownloadHelper addon works great) and then extract the audio from the video.

It takes longer to do, but the audio is marginally better, plus you won't accidentally record other sounds your PC plays :)

Whatever method you choose, make sure you watching the Youtube video in HQ mode as the audio (and video) will be better. You can do that easily by adding &fmt=18 to the end of the Youtube video URL.

i.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYnSGTUU4P0

becomes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYnSGTUU4P0&fmt=18
