Recover network deletions

When you delete files from a network share, they don't go to the recycle bin, they go for good. So I'm looking for a freeware version of Diskeeper's Undelete - something that can be used to recover deletions from networked drives.

Anybody got any ideas or suggestions/recommendations?

I hate to be the bearer of sad tidings but networks are different from your host machine. There is the possibility that the network admin on your server can restore a file from their backups but other than that, your out of luck.

There are good things and not so good things about network shares and this is one of the not so good things.

Regardless, I would contact your server admin to restore a file that you deleted.

And it sounds posher than it is - my setup is 2 laptops to a modem-router. The old laptop is remoted into and used as a media streamer/jukebox (it has portable HDs attached, plus the odd thing I buy from itunes on its C:\download folder)

I just wondered if there was an alternative to Diskeeper's Undelete (pro version) that protects network deletions - I don't want to pay 40sovs for something that might not ever be needed, though as a freebie, it wouldn't hurt to have an extra safety net, you understand?

I've Googled and don't see much. I could live without it, I suppose... no biggie...
(Instead of, from the new laptop, deleting from a networked folder, I could remote in and delete from the 'old laptop' so it is recycle binned as opposed to vanished into the ether)

Give Recuva a try, it's worked pretty well for me at times. The key is to not use the computr you want to recover files from. The less it's used, the more likely the file can be recovered (before it's disk space is over written).

Thanks there buddy... but this is a pre-emptive rather than remedying...

Will just have to continue to be careful.

Shadow Copy may already be active. Try installing Shadow Explorer and see what it shows you.
