recover word doc

I lost 5,000 words of a doc I was working on. I saved a word doc to a flash drive and replaced the wrong file. I replaced the older version instead of the newer one. There are no other versions of that doc. Is there anyway I can revert back to the last modified date of the file? Is it anywhere on my computer? Or am I sol?!!!

What version of Word do you have?

If there is a chance that word rewrited file in a different sector, you might wanna try something like Kickass Undelete or Undelete360.

Sometimes it works (when Word writes a file in first empty spot, rather then rewriting old spot with actual file).

Thanks for your response. I think because the file was replaced with the other it is not showing up as deleted. Thanks for trying!

It is always better to enable the "Always create backup copy" in the Word options. This is a global setting and once set, it will create a backup copy of the old file before overwriting with a new one. You will have atleast one level of backup.

Before saving the file to the flash drive, if you have saved it by any chance on the system's hard drive, that would be the first place to look. The most probable place would be My Documents folder in your user directory.
