Hello,

my computer has gone away last year and I recovered its hard disk with all my data.

I bought a Serial ATA 2.5 external enclosure in order to read and recover the data, but the problem is that when I used my old PC I put a password for entering in my account, and now with the new PC every time I read my old hard disk it appears a message (attached) saying that I have not the authorisation to enter in the files, and it does not let me put the password.

For your info in the old PC I used windows vista.
In the new PC I use windows 7.

Could you please help me to solve this obstacle? :roll:

What was the operating system of the hard drive you're trying to recover the data from?

You are trying to read the data from the drive in the SATA external enclosure from the new PC, correct? If so you should be able to take ownership and get to everything, no password required.

If the files on the drive are encrypted then you will not be able to read it.

Read the entire topic as you may need to also give yourself full permission to the drive as well.

If Taking Ownership doesn't solve this, then:

Since there are no restrictions on copying files in boot mode, you can copy out your files to external or another HD using the booted WIn7 installation or System Repair Disk with this method: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console, or Paragon rescue disk to recover data.

ps: I had a windows vista before buying my new PC windows 7.

Most new computers come larded with sponsored bloatware and useless factory utilities that throttle Win7.

You can get better performance by following these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

Tech enthusiasts won't even run the bloated factory preinstall but prefer to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.
