Recovery

Hello Friends,
I m using a HP-Pavilion dv 6 3105-tx laptop. I convert my disk to basic. Then whole windows partitions become extended partition. Unfortunately my recovery partition also included. Is there anyway to make my disk like previous??? I tried making my disk dynamic but it makes several simple volumes. I want to recovery my laptop using the recovery partition. Is there any way to make this thing happen?????

On HP's you'd normally want to leave the System, Recovery and Diagnostic Tools partitions Primary so they can boot themselves, converting C to Logical if you want to add additional adjacent Logical partitions. We could easily have helped you do this if you'd asked before making such a mess of things.

Now the System partition is deactivated as shown from the System Active flags on C signifying it is booting itself. This makes the System partition useless which may cause the Recovery and Diagnostics partitions to be unable to boot.

If you didn't bother to make Recovery media before you randomly acted to destroy your system, then you have the option now to back up your data to do an superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7, deleting all partitions during install to get it cleanest. This is a vastly better install than the HP preinstall anyway, which is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have.

If you want to try to sort it out so that Recovery and Diagnostics can boot, what I would do is boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD, rightclick on System, Recovery and then Tools partitions to Modify>Convert to Primary, click OK after each, then Apply.

Now rightclick System partition to set to Active, click OK. Highlight Disk0, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, click OK, Apply.

Now reboot to see if Win7 will start with the System Active flags now back on System partition where they belong. If not boot into Win7 installer or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts with System Active flags on SYstem partition.

Next I would try making my HP Recovery media so you have a backup method in case F11 HP System Recovery will not run. To test if it will run reboot and tap F11 key to see if Recovery will queue up to run. If not the Recovery partition is useless except to be booted manually using Boot Recovery Partition using EasyBCD.
