A little over a month ago I began getting blue screens infrequently. This was the first time in years I'd blue screened, so I wrote it down - 03/13/10. This ramped up to a couple a day. Instead of asking for help then, I reinstalled windows (7, 64 bit), and lost my dump files. This didn't solve the problem, although they occurred infrequent enough for me to stop caring too much. They're back in numbers!

The blue screens began a couple of weeks prior to me updating my mobo, CPU and RAM. I also upgraded my graphics card from an nVidia 8800GT to an ATI 5850 last Monday (04/19), and noticed a new blue screen started appearing then. Since I installed the 5850 blue screens have been pointing at specific files. Prior to this they had not pointed to anything, at least in the blue screen itself.

While I'm not the most technically literate person, I've certainly become moreso in trying to fix this problem - but to no avail! So I look to you guys. Thanks!

I guess lot of issues are going on with it. Lets do some basics

Most of the crashes are pointing to your Display card. First disable automatic driver installation Turn off Windows 7 Automatic Driver Installation | WindowsObserver.com I would recommend to download and update the latest drivers make sure you uninstall the old drivers completely and please don't use Windows Update to update your drivers.

There was a services expection 0xc0000005 that usually casued by a Firewall or Antivirus. I would recommend to uninstall your Antivirus / Firewall completely and run then run Removal Tools and make sure all the entries are cleared. Update your BIOS Firmware.

Also seems like some issues reading from you either Hard driver or Memory so run a complete diagnostics

Run the Memory Diagnostic & HD Diagnostic
Start > CMD > Right Click and Run as Administrator > SFC /SCANNOW

Creative AC3 SW Decoder Device Driver (WDM) ctac32k.sys seems to be out-dated download the latest version of drivers and install it.

In the process of uninstalling my video drivers and rebooting, I experienced a new BSOD when logging in after the reboot. I've attached it just to make sure it's not a new issue - I'm in the process of doing everything you mentioned, and will post the results shortly.

I reinstalled my graphics drivers, and so far no recent crashes have been due to that (as far as I can tell). Uninstalled NOD32 and used the tools recommended, as well. Ran both memtest86 and my Hitachi hard drive diagnostic, and no issues were found.

I tried searching for the ctac32k.sys relevant driver, but was unable to find anything. I tried reinstalling my sound card drivers, but I'm not sure if that solved the problem.

In the mean time, I'm still getting a blue screen usually once per day. I should note that if it doesn't happen within the first few minutes of booting up, the computer will run sans BSOD for the rest of that session. The dump from earlier today happened before I even got to the login screen, however.

I've attached all new dumps. Sorry for pestering you guys, but thanks a ton.

Hello !!

Sorry for delayed replay. Run the Driver Verifier http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...-driver-verifier-identify-issues-drivers.html make sure you run it atleast 36 hours. Also before enabling driver verifier make sure clear the MiniDump folder.

Sorry for the long time in between posts (I'm sure you've been busy without me )

Also, sorry for changing the situation in between posts. At least this time I made it easier for you. I think..

I recently reinstalled Windows again. The first time I attempted to reinstall it bluescreened midway through the process. Second time no issue.

I only downloaded what Windows Update told me to (neither did it recommend, nor did I install my graphics card drivers). In this state I ran driver verifier as recommended for a dozen hours, occasionally watching videos on youtube. No blue screens. 36 hours of not changing anything on my comp is a bit much at the moment :\

After that phase I installed my GPU drivers (ATI Radeon HD 5850 - Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM). No issue right off the bat, but after turning on verifier, it's blue screened twice already. Like before, if it doesn't BSOD within a few minutes of booting up, it seems to run fine. This is where I'm at right now.

It seems to be a GPU driver issue, however, I'm at a loss. What should I do?

Since you haven't filled out your system specs it's not easy to help with the problem. Reading your post suggest that you weren't having a problem initially but it began over time.

Your recent post states that when you last reinstalled Win7 it crashed during the install. If that was a clean install, not a repair, it suggest a hardware problem. Are you over-clocking, if so set the box back to defaults and see if that eliminates the problem.

Otherwise download and create a bootable memtest CD and see if you can successfully run 5 or 6 passes...

Then post back, luck with it...

I filled out my specs, sorry.

Yesterday I installed Windows twice - the first time it blue screened in the middle of the final process. Immediately after I tried again, formatting whatever process the first made, and it was succesful (no blue screens). That is the version I'm on now.

I'm not manually overclocking, however, my GPU itself is factory overclocked (5850 Black Edition
). I've also already run memtest very recently for 7 passes overnight, and it didn't detect any issues.

Nice specs, should be a great box. The goal is to verify the hardware which you've done the first step with memtest. Have you checked Asus's site for a bios upgrade? It's doubtful that the "factory" overclocked XFX is the issue unless it's a driver problem. It's not likely XFX would release the product not thoroughly tested. If you uninstall the XFX drivers and just run the default driver that Win7 installs, does the issue still exist?

Don't want to bail on ya but it's late here (2:00am), I'll check back tomorrow. Luck with it...
