Solved Recycle bin is a magic box

Please tell me how a file, folder, picture, document etc. gets into the recycle bin without being sent there by me or anyone else. I have hundreds of these in the bin of which I may have sent a dozen. It's a magic box

Does that mean that I'm actually sending all of these items to the bin by accident. My understanding of how the bin works is a window will open asking if I want to send xyz to the bin. There are hundreds of pictures in the bin that I know I never sent.

Unless you gremlins in the PC, it can be only those who operate the PC that sent the pics to the bin. The don't walk there on their own.

I would like to see exactly what you see. Their are 2 recycle bins.

Like whs has posted; something or someone has put them in the Recycle Bin.
Their is no magic.

Could you post a picture of your Recycle Bin with things you didn't put their.
I would like to see exactly what you see. Their are 2 recycle bins.

Like whs has posted; something or someone has put them in the Recycle Bin.
Their is no magic.

Do you have the paid version of AVAST? If so, did you run the optimization tool? It deletes things.

If not AVAST, then maybe you ran some other cleanup tool.

If you are getting no warning when things are sent to the Recycle bin, check to see if the "Display delete confirmation dialog" setting has been unchecked in the Recycle bin Properties. (Find this setting by right clicking on the Recycle bin from Explorer, and then click on Properties.)

You don't typically "send" anything to the recycle bin, when you delete an item, the OS automatically moves it to the Recycle Bin so you can recover it later, should you desire. You can configure the Recycle Bin to not save items but delete them immediately, if you prefer.

I have avast premier, paid. I have not run an optimization tool

most of the files are .tif which I don't see listed as an acceptable file type

If you set the view of the recycle bin folder to Details, you should be able to see the date/time that the files were deleted (Date Deleted column). Maybe that info will bring to mind what you (or the computer) was doing at the time.

In the Details view, you should also see a column named Original Location. If these TIF files are originally from a temporary folder, then they might be temp files from an app.

may have found the origin of these files in the bin. Once I changed around the "list by" in the details section I see 5 pictures that I recently exported out of my adobe elements program to a desktop folder. From there I imported them into my adobe lightroom program. After that I deleted the folder. I think that anytime I export a file or folder or picture some where and subsequently delete the folder the files go to the bin. that would explain this. The files being sent to the bin are a secondary move done by the OS not by me.

Were there files still in the folder that you deleted? Did you use the Windows (file) Explorer to delete the folder? If yes to both of those questions, then you put the files in the recycle bin - not the OS. Perhaps it is just semantics.

Believe I have found the problem. Although I do sometimes send a file, folder, etc. to the recycle bin there are many that I don't send (first hand) that is. When I export pictures out of either my elements or lightroom program they are sent to a desktop folder. Once I have used the folder for whatever I created it for, I delete it from the desktop. Here is when those pictures go to the recycle bin. This is a function of the OS standard procedure not intentially by me.

Yes I used explorer to delete the folder and yes the pictures were still in the folder when I deleted it. What I am saying is I was completely unaware that deleting a folder sent the contents to the bin
