Red X on wireless connection?

I just bought two Dell laptops in November the operating system is Windows 7. However, just today my daughter was on her laptop doing whatever teenagers do online but she said there's a red x on her wireless connection icon and now she cannot connect her computer to the internet whatsoever. It even says, there are no connections available but when I turn on my laptop it connects to the internet perfectly fine.

I honestly do not know what to do, I'm not at all good with computers. Is there a cure for this problem?

By any chance is there a button that turns the wireless off & on ? One of my students did that accidentally & could not get it to work for a week. Until I showed her the button.

I'm not too sure actually, we disconnected the router and reconnecting it but the red x is still there.

Did you get any users manuals with the laptops ? Some buttons are above the keyboard & some are on the sides or front (like a slide switch) . Also usually there is a little LED light that shows the wireless is ON. can you compare hers to yours for the little lights ?

on most laptops there is a "button" on the front or side and it turns on and off the wifi abilities on the laptop or a keyboard short cut.

do you have the instruction book that comes with the laptop?

check in there and it should tell what keyboard short cut or where the button is.

if that fails then i might be a driver related issue but since its a new laptop that came with windows 7 then i guess not.

I just checked the wireless light is on but her computer is still not connecting, it can't even find another network to connect to. Is it possible to connect her computer to the internet through mine?

Can you give me the Dell model # & the Dell service tag # so I can research it at the Dell website? Also do you have a cat-5 ethernet cable that you could try connecting her directly to the router ?

Hold on, I'll check what model it is. And the ethernet cable is the cord that looks like a phone cord right?

Plugs on the ethernet cord are slightly larger that the ones on phone cords.
