redundancy error when installing new hard drive

I have a hard drive getting bad, hot and have heard some noise from, on my Acer 5517 laptop so I bought a new WD drive for it. I put it in and tried installing windows 7 with my recovery discs. It will load the windows files and gets 9% installed on next stage and freezes. I then get a redundancy code=23 and it says press control, alt, delete to restart. and bootmgr not found. I have the set of clean recovery disc I originally made for the laptop and I made sure I set it to boot from dvd drive first. I am not a pc whiz so please consider that with replies. Could my recovery disc be corrupt? thanks in advance for any help

The disc may be damaged. It could be the HDD too but considering it's new, I doubt that. Especially that you want to write on it, not read from it. If the disc is damaged, there's nothing really you can do about it since it has physical bumps to store your data and if one is broken, you can't stick it back. Do you have another PC? Try to copy the whole disc and see if it's working and copies everything.

You can't install Windows 7 with recovery discs. They are used to repair a current installation of Windows, not install one. You can download the Win 7 file and burn to a DVD and do an install. First you need to know what version it is, Home Premium, Professional, etc. You also need to know if it is 32-bit or 64-bit. You will need to have your Win 7 Product Key that came with your PC so you can activate the install. It should be on a sticker possibly under the battery. If you have this information go to this site Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River and go about have way down the page and you will see the files. There are a lot of them and you might be better off posting here what you have and I can tell you the file number to be looking for. Post the version and either 32 or 64 bit.

These are factory Recovery disks you made for your Acer when you set it up? If so make sure they are clean and you are using the first disk. Reboot and tap the F12 key to trigger the DVD drive to boot. If they still will not boot then sometimes wiping the HD with http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/52129-disk-clean-clean-all-diskpart-command.html (use Clean command) will help, but since you need the Win7 disk http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html to run that anyway you might as well do the superior http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164. I suppose I'm just stupid cause I read the suggestions ect. but have no idea what most really mean..I was told by the company I bought my laptop from that I wouldn't be getting an original windows 7 disc but I should make the recovery set and that is all I would ever need...oh really? All I want to do is install windows 7 on my new hd.. I have a 64 bit version on my existing soon to go hd. If there's a chance my recovery disc are bad couldn't one make a new set? I found the product ID in the control panel under services I can't read the label on bottom of laptop.

Check again with a magnifying glass to see if you can make out the Product Key on the COA sticker. You'll need this to do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164.

Otherwise you can try the suggestions I gave you above to try to get the Recovery Disks to run, or you can put the Hard Drive back in a try to generate a new set of Recovery DVD's.

You could also run Acer Factory Recovery to go back to Factory condition on the Hard drive, then make save a backup image to an external hard drive of all partitions, apply the image to the new hard drive. Thanks Greg..are you a rocker for real?...I am also a musician and songwriter. anyhow, I know just enough about computers to get me in trouble and terms such as imaging lose me man...I will try to do some of that stuff when I get time but suspect a bad new hard drive and I have been seriously thinking how good this laptop would float in the Ohio river while I go to wally world and buy a new on. This one has only 2 2.0 usb ports and one went bad so I need to get one with more usbs instead of this hub I use. I do most of my music on pcs so you know how much I need extra ports...but thanks so much for your advice.
