Hi folks,
This is probably a stupid question, BUT, here goes.....
My Windows 7 Ultimate installation if getting sluggish to boot, it is now taking 3 to 4 minutes to get to a stage where I can work with it. Once up and running it is not too bad, but not as sharp as it used to be. The installation will be around 3 years old.

Is there any way to "refresh" this installation other that a complete re-install?

Regards,
Bob

When Win7 is installed there should be a backup image saved of the finished install so that if it ever becomes sluggish or irreparable you can simply reimage it to the HD in 20 minutes. Your files need to be backed up separately, ideally in real time using a service such as Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with OneDrive.

If you haven't done that then you can go over the present install closely to check everything and optimize it using the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html.

There is a step for a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R which wil reinstall the OS while keeping all of your programs, files and settings in place. But often corrupt settings can be passed back through so it is not anywhere near as effective as a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 which steps are the same for retail.

Hi Greg
Many thanks, I'll give that a go.
Cheers
