Registry undo after failed install of MS Office

OK..here's what's happening. Couldn't get MS Office Pro Plus 10 to install. Asked for help, and got the following suggestion from Capt. Jack Sparrow about changing the registry settings:

Click Start and then type cmd in the Start Search box.

1. Type cd "%allusersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft Help", and then press ENTER,
2. Type attrib -h rgstrtn.lck, and then press ENTER.
3. Type del rgstrtn.lck, and then press ENTER.
4. Type exit, and then press ENTER.

Once you delete Rgstrtn.lck file, you can try to install it again and see what happens.

1. In the "Start" menu, locate "Command Prompt". Right-click and choose "Run as Administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2. Type the following commands, then press "Enter" to execute them one by one. Please
note the space before the command and its parameter.

takeown /f C:\Windows
cacls C:\Windows /G administrators:F i

I tried these changes but did not work; however, all of my programs now require that I right click and run as administrator, which gives me a screen asking for permission to make changes. Being stupid, I did not back up the register first.

How can I undo the changes to the register.

Hi agisoec, welcome to the Forum.

Do you have s System Restore point prior to when you made these changes. Using an earlier Restore Point should fix your system.

Hello and welcome agisoec I ma afraid with great difficulty I should imagine maybe the Capt. can guide you

As a general rule whenever I get a new machine or do a clean install I always back the reg up first cab off the rank because you can end up in a pickle like you have now.
Registry - Backup and Restore

Now I would give a system restore a shot - back to fair way before you did that - nothing to lose but I am not sure it will help.
