Hello!
So, when I got my new computer, I dual-booted it with ubuntu. Now I don't want ubuntu anymore, so I was wondering, if I download the installation dvd, format my computer, where can I find the product code inside the computer? and will it let me reinstall it with the same product code?

Thx in advance

Does your computer had a recovery option when you boot?? If so you can run that and you wont have to worry about your key... if not you can use Belarc Advisor to retrieve your key... Belarc Advisor...

Hi pal !
It is not necessary to format your computer in order to get rid of a dual boot. It is just about to uninstall Ubuntu bootloader, format the ubuntu partition only, and reinstall windows bootload again (if needed).

I assume you installed ubuntu later on a separate partition in your computer, so windows boot manager manages your boot option (not the GRUB of linux). In this situation, you format the hard drive partition where ubuntu is installed, Download EasyBCD and install in windows 7 and finally delete the linux boot entry using it.

But if linux is installed first, you are to run a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html to run windows 7 properly , after the above steps.

The answer is yes you can use the key. I have a Asus laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and I formatted and installed a downloaded copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and the key activated just fine. I had to do phone activation, but that is no big deal. I do this because of all the junkware that Asus installed on my computer. I know I could have just uninstalled everything, but I wanted a fresh start with nothing on it so I can configure it myself.

You should have a COA sticker on the tower (or bottom of laptop) which has the Product Key, otherwise audit the key from registry with Belarc.

I would deep clean the HD to get the Linux bootloader out. Back up files, Boot DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recov Tools list to open Command Line, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (replace # with target HD)
CLEAN ALL (zeroes the HD, takes awhile)
EXIT

Now reboot into Win7 installer to Custom install using Drive Tools to Create and Format new partition.

Can any of you tell me where I can download the installation dvd?

Thanks to all of you!
I'll try one of these things and tell you how it goes!

We are not able to help with downloading installers here because of the possibility that it encourages piracy.

However since you have a license key to use for clean reinstall there is nothing wrong with borrowing or downloading an installer for this purpose.
