Hi all

I was running a licensed edition of Windows 7 Home edition I now wish to sell my laptop And have erased all personal info and restored to original factory spec from discs (Toshiba) which was originally running windows vista.

Question is can I now reinstall Windows 7 on this clean laptop remembering that I have installed this copy once.

Advice welcome

:)

If it is a retail version of the Windows 7 then yes you can.
If it is a OEM version of Windows 7 than technically no.

If it is a Retail copy, Full or Upgrade, you can reinstall it on that laptop, as long as the license key you use is not used on any other computer.

You can also do a Clean install of Win 7 with either a Full or Upgrade version. You can also reinstall it even if it was a System Builders OEM version as long as it was originally installed only on that system.

There is NO restriction for reinstalling Win 7 with any version on the same computer it was originally installed on.

Not sure why theog said that if it was an upgrade version you couldn't reinstall it.

Is this the same laptop you plan to sell which you ran Vista Recovery upon and now want to know if you can reinstall Win7? Why would you go to all that trouble recovering Vista if you want to sell it with Win7 when you could simply Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version?

If this is not what you want to do then please explain it so it's understood.

Better still , why would you want to give away your Windows 7 key ? Let the buyer worry about the operating system.

Hi All

Thanks for you replies I have had my laptop cleaned and restored to original factory settings from recovery discs and it came with Windows Vista, I bought Windows 7 Home premium when it came out at a reduced price it was bought from a computer outlet so genuine. I just want to sell it with the computer but not instll it.

Hope this helps
