Hi Brink.
This is what I have ready for tomorrow. Also been reading your thread regarding installing windows 7.
There was one part regarding a password,Well I'm the only one using this computer so do I just click on next to by pass the password setup?
This is my plan of action.

I have a windows 7 home premium 64 Bit desktop,And on Thursday I'm planning to re install the O/S on it.I have
The windows disc
ISO disc with SP1 on it which I downloaded from Digital river
The genuine windows key.
Disc with Windows 7 64 bit drivers
Disc for Driver & Utilities for nVidia chip-set Main board.
Now what i would like to know is there anything in particular that I should be wary of?.
I'm going to be brave I also have a laptop to fall back on for info in case something does go wrong.
Many Thanks.

On my C drive only the Operating system and program files are on it,All doc's etc are on another internal hdd.
Do I have to look out for anything in particular or will it be straight forward as your link?
Thanks.

If you don't want a password, then you could just leave the password fields empty to do so.

I would recommend to disconnect all hard drives other than the drive you are installing Windows on to make sure the "System Reserved" partition is installed on it and not any other drive by mistake. You can connect the other drives back after the installation has finished.

If you're installing Windows to a drive of it's own without any other partitions, then it should go smoothly and like in the tutorial to select the "unallocated space" disk at step 8 to install to. :)

Are you referring to the ESC Boot menu key? If so then one of them you'll need to figure out which is the DVD drive listing to choose it. If you can't figure that out then post back a camera snap of the choices or type them out and we'll help you choose the correct one.

If you're in BIOS setup then follow the video for how to set DVD drive first to boot.

Once disk boots continue with Clean Install Windows 7 steps.

While it's installing read over these other steps which compile everything that works best for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 so you know how to set it up and maintain it perfectly. You can ask back any questions you have.

Hi Thanks,All is okay got the windows installation running okay.
I will get back to you when complete.
Glad of your help.many Thanks.

Well I'm back and all is looking good.
After the first initial problem with the bios setup all went okay then,It was a lot easier than I thought I did think that it was a very long procedure but the windows part was done in about 30 min's the longest item is going to be all the updates at the moment there are 140 updates.Plus re installing my programs and printers etc.
When all is up and running fully functionally I will be using Macrium to make a new image of my C drive.
Well Brink and all I want to thank You very much for the guidance you put my way on this project.
Next time I know that it wont be such a nightmare after all.
Very pleased with myself for completing this challenge.
Once again Many Thanks.

If you'd read over the reinstall tutorial it explains to delete all partitions during install since Recovery will not run after a reinstall anyway.

I'd start over and do it correctly following the steps in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 so you avoid these problems.

Feel free to ask back any questions if there's a step you don't understand. The first part deals with backing up the old install so if its still there on a Dual Boot menu it might not be too late in case you forgot something.

So you are saying that I should have cleaned the C drive first.if yes how would I have done so??
Sorry to be a pain

If you're sure you installed to that partition then it should have formatted it first. What makes you think you have the old Win7 on there? Do you have a Dual Boot menu with old install? That would mean you installed to another partition.

Best way forward is to follow the tutorial Brink first gave you http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html Steps 7/8 show you how to access the Drive Options to delete all partitions, create and format a new one.

Too bad you don't have the patience to follow the Clean Reinstall tutorial as you'd get and keep a perfect install as long ad you did.
