I recently did a complete recovery on my computer. OS is Window 7 and I brought over my pictures from a backup file and now it says I can view them becuase i dont have the correct permission??? there is only one login for the computer and it has full administrator privileges, how can i get permission to view the pics?
Right check one of the files - select properties tab, select the security tab
Your userid shows what permissions? A screen shot would help.
There's sometimes a "unblock" checkbox on the first permissions window when a file comes from a different computer. This doesn't usually prevent you from viewing it though.

to test this,
on one of the files go into the security tab, select edit, then select add
type Users
in the box and then check names - it should give you a fully qualified name
the new entry "Users" will be givern read and read&execute rights
ok out of the properties
this should be enough to test - see if you can view the file
.

goto c:\users\alexperkins
right click pictures folder.->properties->security->advanced. Make yourself the owner of the file (and propogate to subfolders). Also give yourself FULL ACCESS to that folder (and propogate to subfolders).

@perkinstouch: forget everything I said (except filling in your specs) and follow kaktus' advice in post 6. I was racking my brain on this and it was simple... I knew it was simple but couldn't find that particular brain cell.
Thanks kaktus, you ol softie
