Hi Guys,

I'm about to do a reinstall of Win 7 Home Premium onto my SSD. Just need a bit of advice.

I'm aware I need to set BIOS to AHCI and have been alerted to the possible need to do an alignment on the SSD. The Forum has a tutorial about aligning SSD which states: "If you install Windows7 on a brand new SSD, you need not make any special arrangements because the Windows7 installer will do the alignment for you."

I'm OK with that, but it mentions a "BRAND NEW" SSD, not one that has had an installation previously. So I need your advice on whether or not I need to do an alignment in this case.

And ...... is there anything else I need to consider?

I'm reasonably sure it can be a "used" SSD if you are doing a clean install, but there's no reason not to use Diskpart as Britton mentions to avoid any doubt.

In the worst case, it is misaligned and you then correct the misalignment after the installation is complete. Misalignment will affect SSD performance, but it wouldn't prevent you from operating.

You should check alignment, fragmentation (off), hibernation (off maybe if you don't use it) after the install. And you should have other hard drives disconnected when you begin.
