Hi,

I stopped using my desktop PC a couple of years back due to multiple BSODs and not being able to fix it. I have recently tried to repair it.

I have created a Windows 7 Home Premium Installation Disk and have my Product Key. I booted from this disk and carried out the setup until the installation stopped as it was expanding files, with the error message 0x80070570. During this time I deleted my partitions to leave me with one block of disc space.

I read that a fix for this was to remove all but 1 stick of RAM, so I removed the other three and tried again, leaving me with 2GB of RAM. I load the disk, windows loads the files (the black screen with the progress bar at the bottom) and then blue screens with the error message "STOP: 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF8000D2BA970, 0xFFFFF880009A9418, 0xFFFFF880009A8C70)

I'm at a bit of a loss to be honest and any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Quick update, I changed the RAM to a different stick, and I have got to the exact same point as before with the error code during installation. Does this mean the RAM is faulty?

Test the RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes or overnight.

Test also your HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. (If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.) Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failures.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

I'd actually already started using Memtest, and have worked out (please correct me if I'm wrong) that I have 3 faulty sticks of RAM (see attached Word document). Only one stick worked on all ports, and the other three had errors on all ports. Am I correct in saying that it is faulty RAM and not the motherboard ports?

If so, I'll carry on with what you have suggested!

It explains in RAM - Test with Memtest86+ how to determine whether it's the stick or the port that's bad.

If you can determine which, then you should be able to install while you wait for your replacement RAM, unless you need to put it in shop for ports because you can't work around them.

Hi,

The HD check was fine, I ended up using the Seagate option because my hard drive model was not listed on the Samsung website. I followed your BIOS instructions, and your command box instructions to create a primary partition and format it, then started the Windows installation again. It got to the exact same point as before, with the same error message: "Windows cannot install required files. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570.

Thanks for the help!

Did you try a new installer from the link provided? If a new DVD doesn't work then try the flash stick.

Do you have UEFI? Have you followed the special steps given for that, or to bypass it?

I wasn't too sure what an EFI BIOS was, but found no mention of UEFI when I looked through the BIOS menu, is there a way for me to check?

I'll retry using the installer from the link you gave me, I'll let you know how it goes!

It would have UEFI or Legacy BIOS choices in the BIOS if so.

Let us know how the changed installer works.

The installer worked brilliantly, it installs fine, gets to the first time use bit and when I put the product key in it isn't the right format... it should be XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX but it is in the format XXXXX-OEM-XXXXXXX-XXXXX instead. Am I looking at the wrong thing?

I have been following the guide, but I can't find the COA sticker anywhere on my machine. I built it myself a few years ago and j could've sworn I stuck the sticker inside but apparently not... have you got any suggestions on what I could do? Thanks very much, really appreciate the help you've given me.

How would you have the Product ID and not the Product Key? Did you run the Belarc Advisor
audit? It should have been run if you couldn't find the COA sticker pictured in the tutorial. It would have produced the ID and Key. So I wonder why you have one and not the other, as that rarely happens.

It is too late now to boot into WIn7 to audit the key if you've already formatted or reinstalled.

If so then you'll have to call MS Customer Service to see if they can provide a key with the Product ID as they sometimes do when the sticker is worn off. However there is a good chance they won't.

Have you tried searching for the disk and packaging which came with the retail box?

I can't find the box, that's my problem... Before I did reinstalled I wrote down the Product ID from the Control Panel (thinking it was the Product Key). After that, I reinstalled, and tried to run Belarc, which gave me a key that was a default key and not valid for activation.

So basically, I should've ran Belarc to find out my Product key before I reinstalled, but I thought I already had it when I just had the ID. And now I've reinstalled, I can't find out the key!

How do I contact Microsoft to request a new key?

Thanks very much!

If you've only deleted the partition using the installer and not yet formatted or reinstalled then it can be undeleted using Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard Video Help. The reason I offer this is because it's unclear if you are having the failure at the point where you provide the key before install, or if you've actually completed the install.

If so I'd call MS Customer Service to see if they will help you . 1-800-Microsoft (642-7676)

I got stuck in a queue on the number, and it's 1.50 a minute for me as I'm in the UK. Is there an email address I can email instead?

If they say no, is there anywhere you'd recommend for purchasing a new key?

Thanks very much! I would've been lost without your help!

Do you have any backup images of the install you could restore to audit the Product Key?

Do you have the bank information for the purchase you could contact the retailer for help?

If you need to buy another key, use a major retailer like New Egg or Amazon. Google Shop the best prices. The best price break is for Upgrade version if you have any old copy of XP or Vista (which doesn't need to be installed) or another Builder's OEM.

No and no, unfortunately. Looks like I'll just have to purchase a new one if they say no!

Thanks so much for your help, you've effectively saved my computer!!
