reinstalling windows 7 0x80300024 error

due to a crash that occured after absolutely nothing has changed or been installed on my desktop that i dont browse the internet at all on and hasnt slowed down or given any telltale signs of corruption i have to reinstall windows. when i get to the "where do you want to instal windows screen disk 0 unallocated space is my only choice, i get unable to instal to the selected location error 0x80300024. click advanced options and format is greyed out. try to format drive from dos prompt and it seems to work except it thinks my c drive is 1.9 gigs instead of 233.8 please tell me i missed a step and i dont need to replace anything

Where did you get your installation disk? Is it retail, OEM, from a download, or what?

Is there anything on your hard drive that you care about---personal data, email, bookmarks, videos, mp3s, etc?

Are you now able to boot into Windows and get to your normal desktop?

retail, same disk i installed from last time, luckily i just use that computer for gaming and keep everything else on my laptop. i cant boot into windows at all

Try these steps, using the Diskpart command.

This will wipe out EVERYTHING on your hard drive and give you one single partition covering the entire drive.

If that is not what you want, don't do it.

Disconnect all other drives before you start.

It may not work, but it can't hurt if there is nothing on the drive you want.

Boot from your install disk and then:

1. Once Windows 7 Setup is loaded, press Shift + F10 keys at the first setup screen (which allows selection of language, keyboard and locale). A Command Prompt window will be opened.

2. Run Diskpart, the built-in disk partitioning tool of Windows 7, with the following command:

diskpart

3. Type in the following commands one by one, followed by the Enter key to create a partition (text in brackets are comments only):

list disk (to show the ID number of the hard disk to partition, normally Disk 0)

select disk 0 (change 0 to another number if applicable)

clean

create partition primary

select partition 1

active

format fs=ntfs quick

exit

4. Type exit at command prompt to close Command Prompt window.

You will be returned to the Windows installation disk interface and continue as normal. When you get to the screen that asks where you want to install Windows, direct it to the partition you just made in Diskpart.

I have had the same problem and tried this too. However, all was going well, but when I got to the "Where do you want to install Windows?) page Disk 0 Partition 1 was shown as Type System, and I got the message

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

So I'm now completely stuck! I'd be most grateful for any ideas.

I had this 0x80300024 error with Windows 7 installation yesterday. It should be mentioned that the laptop was shipped with Windows 8 but I turned off safe boot in the BIOS and enabled CMS OS there, after that I only needed an MBR disk.

But in my case there was a second unremovable disk: it was designed by some inventive Samsung engineer to be soldered into the notebook motherboard.

Solved this by physically disconnecting HDD and inserting it into another notebook, running installation from a bootable USB there until first restart but supressing restart by entering BIOS immediately and shutting down by pressing power key. Then I unplugged both USB and HDD from the second laptop; plugged them to the first one; changed boot priority to HDD first, USB second and from that installation run smoothly.
