Reinstalling Windows 7 with a Win7SP1 dvd with Win7 key

Hello,

I plan on reinstalling Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on my laptop. The key that I'm using came from a generic Windows 7 Pro 64-bit DVD. I do have a DVD lying around that is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with Service Pack 1. So my question is, could I use that DVD with SP1 already on it to install Windows 7, but still use that key from my straight up Windows 7 Pro 64-bit DVD that DIDN'T have SP1?

Yes, it should work.

But doesn`t your laptop have a COA with a key ?

I should have noted that my laptop originally came installed with Windows Vista, then I bought a copy of Windows 7 Pro later on. So I assume that the COA that came with my laptop is for Vista?

That is correct the COA under the battery or on the button of the laptop will only work with the OS that came with the laptop which is Windows Vista .

That should work. I've done it a few times.

Yes, it is wisest to use the latest official installer with SP1 for your licensed version which is also available in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps also apply to retail Win7 and will assure a perfect install.

I just did this a few days ago actually, and yes, it did work perfectly.
