Okay. I'd like to start by saying I'm not technically inclined at all.

A few days ago, my hard drive decided to die and take everything with it. We took my computer to Best Buy's Geek Squad, and they said to buy a new hard drive and get the recovery discs from Sony. So we did. I've already put the new drive in and gotten the discs, but I have no idea where to go from there. I've tried to do it by myself, but I'm fairly hopeless and don't exactly want to spend 200 more bucks for someone to do it for me. I honestly have no clue. If you could help, that would be spectacular.

My computer is a Sony vaio, few years old. The original hard drive that fried was WD Scorpio Blue 500gb, and the new one I put in is the same but 1 TB instead. I also got 5 recovery discs from Sony, vaio recovery media kit for VPCE_30FX.

Hello Jess, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm sorry to hear about your HDD taking a dive on you with all the data on it like that. :(

This link here from Sony can show you how to use the Sony Recovery Discs to boot to the System Recovery Options window, click VAIO Recovery Center, and finally click Restore Complete System to start the factory restore of your Windows 7. :)

Hope this helps,
Shawn
