Hi,

I wiped my HDD using Darik's Boot and Nuke, and I'm trying to boot the Windows 7 CD, however, it's not booting. It's giving me the following error:

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

This is my second re-install. I ran into the problem before, but I don't remember how I fixed it.

Please help. :)

In BIOS setup the order of boot devices - CD/DVD before hard disk.
There is a special key you have to press during boot to enter BIOS parameter setup - computer and make specific.
For example - Acer <F2>.
There should be a hint in the beginning of the boot sequence for entering BIOS. (on CTRL-ALT-DEL or power-up)

Hi Dutch, and don't forget that when you boot up you'll have to go to the F key that has your boot sequence and select boot from DVD drive. :)

Sorry but this is the best I could do.
I used the tutorial for finding the missing info but still could not find it. Special Thanks to PooMan UK and DocBrown for their help in filling out these specs.
Win7 installer uses a DVD. Are you using a DVD drive?

Set it first to boot in BIOS, or use the one-time BIOS Boot menu key given on first screen to boot DVD drive - F12 on HP's.

Tips for getting a perfect reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

I've set the DVD/CD drive to boot first, and when I restart, I can hear the drive trying to load the DVD, but it doesn't.

Do you have more then one CD/DVD drive in the system? If so you need to make sure the drive you are using is the FIRST CD/DVD drive.
This shouldn't be a problem if the CD/DVD drives are SATA but if you are using IDE CD/DVD drives they don't like booting from the SLAVE drive

Clean the DVD and try again.

If that fails then try making a ISO of the DVD (on another system) then loading (burning) that ISO to a USB flash stick.
This is all covered in the tutorial section. Sorry don't have the link on hand.

If the system cannot boot from DVD - either DVD media or DVD drive is in a bad condition.
Solutions:
1. Make an exact copy of DVD media on another working computer and try again.
2. Transfer DVD media to USB stick (again on another computer). Look in this forum for help on how to make a bootable install USB from your DVD install disk.

I had a backup copy of the original DVD, and I used that, and it booted perfectly.

I appreciate everyone's help, though. :)
