ReInstalling Windows

Guys Im using Windows 7 Home Basic before
and yesterday my windows was unable to start
i do start up repair,system restore etc but still it cannot start
I guess reinstalling OS will fix this
I just want to know what is the step by step process in Reinstalling windows 7 in the same drive without loosing any of my files. . .

Please help me guys. .

Hello adriansam and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could try a Repair Install. Otherwise you'd have to try to backup all existing files, documents, photos, etc because a clean install will wipe everything off the hard drive.

It's also possible that your Lenovo has a hidden recovery partition that would let you return your machine to factory specs (just like the day you bought it.) But again, you'd lose all of your personal data.

As Lee suggests, tap the hotkey given on first boot screen to try to run Factory Recovery.

If that fails you can Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - everything you need is in the blue link including how to rescue your files first.

Since you may have only tried the Startup repair option once you may want to see if you can avoid an upgrade to repair if not needed by burning a repair cd if you have a cd or dvd burner installed. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

Know anyone running the same edition with installation media? That would need to be the exact same edition as well as with or without SP1 depending on whether or not the preinstalled copy of 7 you have there included SP1 if you didn't originally install Windows yourself.

As far as simply downloading 7 out in the wild that's not a good idea since often things don't go right either from malware laced downloads or not genuine through bogus sites! We wouldn't be able to help you with any of that here.

As I said, everything you need is in the blue link tutorial Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 , including the latest official installer with SP1 which can also be used for a Repair Install.

Please read all of the material provided before asking back questions.

Hey I cannot find home basic 64bit on your given link Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life. . .is my files will be deleted if i do repair install??? .

You'll have to download another version in 64 bit, run the eicfg removal tool on the ISO file to unlock all versions, then burn to DVD or write to flash stick using the tool given. Then choose your licensed version to run a Repair Install.

You would need to borrow a Home Basic dvd in order to perform a repair install for that edition if that would work since you have an OEM preinstall on. You can not use the iso for a different edition without purchase of a new product key/license which would then require a clean install to replace the present OEM preinstall.

If you are able to perform an upgrade to repair install with another HB disk the repair will preserve all programs and personal data but typically require device drivers to go on fresh again as well as the need to reactivated Windows by entering the product key on the sticker attached on the machine.

To get around the "invalid product key" error message that may come up you click the change product key option and enter the product key from the borrowed disk which will then see the same. Then you go back and re-enter the OEM sticker key where that will suddenly be verified and see the fresh copy activated since you would have genuine media in use.

Sometines the OEM simply won't take the first time around when you are not using a factory recovery disk. For that you can either use the disk creation utility that comes prepackaged or download it from the manufacturer's support site in order to burn a recovery dvd or two if not written to a usb flash drive. The vendor/dealer can also order a disk for shipping based on your customer information including the serial number for that model.
