Remote administration Windows 7 into Ubuntu

Hello all, first time poster.
I have Windows 7 RC running on my laptop and I love it. I also just came into possession of an older machine that I'm interested in turning into a small file server running Ubuntu (also because I've always wanted to tinker around with linux). I was wondering though what would be a good solution for remote administration for this setup. That way I can just have the server running and pop into it when I need to to do work. Thanks in advance.
