Remote Connection

I'm really stuck with such a problem. Whine over. LOL

So, I have a Windows 7 HP laptop that the screen has now gone totally blank. I'm guessing it HP related, but that's whole other can of worms.

I have a Windows XP desktop that I was planning on doing the remote desktop thingy (one of these days--didn't happen).

I can see the Windows 7 laptop and get to all of my files, but I'd like to use a program that's only on the laptop. My guess is I set it up on my network, not sure I remember doing this, but, hey, the stuff is there.

My question, since I can't really "see" any of my settings or start menu or anything beyond my \users, is there a way that I can get to my "program files" on my Windows 7 laptop?

I tried hooking up a monitor to the laptop and got to the safe mode, but then that disappeared somewhere now too.

I'm copying all my files to a stick, but I really wanted to use a specific program that's no installed on my desktop.

Hi Gloria,

Pls. try it again to connect a Monitor to your laptop, here's a tutorial. Are you just trying to access this program so that you can use it?

Just to let you know, any software/programs that are installed in another computer can't just be transferred over to another computer or an external USB drive. You will need the actual CD/DVD or entire Software with an executable file and then install it in another computer. Is this maybe something you have downloaded online?

I've sure I've confused you. I'm copying my files over to a stick so I can send it in for repair, not copying programs, in case they can't save my stuff.

I have a program that limits me to only four installations and I wanted to save my three remaining so I don't want to install it on my desktop. I just wanted to use the installed program from my desktop while I was copying my files and until I talked to HP about my screen issues and if it can even be repaired.

I did get the separate monitor to work once or twice, but then I tried to start it in safe mode and then told it to restart normally and now the monitor screen is black, just like the laptop screen, however, I still see the mouse pointer on the monitor.

I'm guessing there's no way to set up remote access (now that i need it) so I can use the laptop's programs on my desktop since I can't see anything, is there?

I just need to finish this project then I can send it back to HP. Sigh.

Good news, I hit the f4 button and it toggled back, but only on the separate monitor!

So now I cane see my stuff, how do I tell Windows 7 to let my Windows XP use it remotely?

Such a saga.

No you didn't confuse me...
I have forgotten to provide you the tutorial on how to setup RDC. I'd usually go back to my posts and edit (its a Habit) but I got so pre-occupied multitasking.
Using Remote Desktop on Windows XP, VISTA and Windows 7 Computers

If setting up RDC gives you a hardtime, pls don't give up bec you may try a Remote Software such as Team Viewer, it's Free.
