Remote Desktop 7 - What happened?

Some time ago I read this article and it basically shows how Microsoft redefined RDP for Windows 7.

However, after doing some more research on it, it looks like this feature was skipped for the retail version - though I have problems understanding why.

Any of you guys got a clue on what really happened here?

Well, did you read the article?

I sure as hell can't play games over RDP - did I miss something? Mine's choppy.

Habitats,

from your original post I would appear that you have connectivity so from that point of view the RDP is there. As for the choppy nature of the system this is I would think, the direct function of the bandwidth of your connection.

For full desktop composition I would expect to need a 100MB full duplex connection, and preferably wired gigabit full duplex. In addition you would need high end hardware at both ends of the connection, in fact the hardware at the receiving end should be better as this needs to handle all the transfer and the actual game

The analogy here is when playing online games or even watching online media, the quality of playback is dependent on the bandwidth of your net connection and your local hardware

Have I really expressed myself in such a way that it didn't seem obvious that I already knew what RDP was, and that I was fully aware of it's presence in W7?

The purpose of this thread was that I wanted to find out more about this Directx 3D/2D accelerated, client-side rendered RDP feature, that Microsoft showed us some months before release - which they chose to skip for the final release.

This feature was a feature well implemented in the early versions of Windows 7, but as I said, it didn't make it to RTM.

If you still got no clue of what I'm talking about, take a look at this video (press the blue text to the left..) and skip to about 11:03.

It's clear that none of you actually read the article I linked to in my original post.

Edit: And FYI; I'm using my RDP on a gigabit LAN, and the bandwidth is not the bottleneck here.
