Remote Desktop Messes up Icons

I have a question about Remote Desktop.

I connect to my main home computer from numerous machines. Whenever I do, it affects the icons on my main computer's desktop. Sometime very badly.

I understand that this is a function of the resolution of the machine I'm connecting with.

Is there a way to lock down those icons or some other work around so that remote desktop will not affect my main computer's desktop?

You could try this work around Control Your Desktop Icons - Tips by PC Magazine using this restore the Desktop icons to the pervious state.
