i'm going to guess both of you have 7 home premium, which only allows remote desktop to work as a client so unless you have professional or ultimate on one of the systems it's not going to work just use teamviewer as mentioned above it's a really good program and free to use.

Another free solution is UltraVNC... I see that your problem has been solved, but another program to try in the future.
