You should be able to use Remote Desktop on Windows 7 to control Windows XP and vice versa. You may need to download the Remote Desktop 7.0 update for XP though. You also need to turn it on on the XP side.

Download details: Update for Windows XP (KB969084)

I tried the remote desktop update you've linked to me and still no good. Ok this is what i did unless i'm wrong :(
From inside the lan all i would need is the ip address within the lan? If i were to access from outside the lan i would need to log into my router and forward the ip add. of the pc i wanted to access to port 3389? And the pc has to have admin. access with pw. I also enable both remote asst. on both pc. I was able to log into from "outside" the lan when i'm accessing to another window 7, but when its window xp pro sp3 no go on the wan access. Please if anyone know anything more help :)

Remote Assistance is NOT the same thing as Remote Desktop. You need to enable Remote Desktop on both machines.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/...ktop-Connection-and-Windows-Remote-Assistance

How to enable remote desktop on XP:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsXp/using/mobility/getstarted/Remoteintro.mspx

How to enable remote desktop on 7:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/turn-on-remote-desktop-in-windows-vista/

From MS Website:

1.

Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
2.

Click Remote settings, and then select the one of the three options under "Remote Desktop." Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3.

Click Select Users. If you are an administrator on the computer, your current user account will automatically be added to the list of remote users and you can skip the next two steps.
4.

In the Remote Desktop Users dialog box, click Add.
5.

In the Select Users or Groups dialog box, do the following:
*

To specify the search location, click Locations, and then select the location you want to search.
*

In Enter the object names to select, type the name of the user that you want to add, and then click OK.

The name will be displayed in the list of users in the Remote Desktop Users dialog box.

Also, that update is for Windows XP...

Another thing... You can't connect to users using Windows XP Home Edition

1) Remote Desktop will not work on any computer that does not have a password.
So on your user account on the TARGET machine you need to set a login password.

2) In the TARGET machine, go to your system/remote panel and check the "Remote Desktop" box.

3) Follow that into the user setup... you should see that your account already has access, just below the user list.

From the other machine... you should now be able to click the Start Remote Desktop link and get a panel asking for the computer to connect to... enter the computer's NAME... you should see a login panel asking for the username and password, enter them --for the TARGET machine-- and the next thing should be that you see the TARGET computer's desktop in a window on your machine.

Once you have this working in one direction... change machines and set the same thing up in the other direction.

Then... per my previous post... head on over to Port Forward and follow the directions for your router there...
