Removable Disc (I:) won't eject

Recently I noticed that "Removable Disc (I: )" has appeared in my list of devices with removable media. The only external drive currently connected is a Seagate 500GB back-up drive "Free Agent drive (G: )". I have tried to eject this ghost drive and I have tried restarting the computer without success. The computer seems to be operating as intended except this ghost drive issue. Has anyone else had this problem, or should I just ignore this anomaly?

The computer came from HP with Windows XP. I upgraded to Windows & Pro 64 about one year ago.

Is this for a media card reader by chance?

If so or the drive is empty, then you might see if setting Windows to hide empty drives may hide it.

Hi JSE,

Did you connect any portable device to your PC anytime? Say a digital camera, mobile phone, MP3 Player etc., which can take a drive letter and show up as a drive? a printer with card reader?

Have you installed any software related to those devices for accessing those devices? Never mind - not a sin, but those may leave behind a ghost drive looking for that device.

Please remove any and all USB devices including USB hubs,docks (except your keyboard and mouse ) from your PC and perform a drive cleanup to remove all non-present devices and registry entries associated with those.
