Removable disk letters under computer

Could anyone please tell me how I can remove the letter signifying a removable drive designation Not usre if these are ol USB letters given by windows when loading.
If I click on them I am told to insert a disk into the removable drive..anyone know how to remove these letters. Will they just go away..?

OP states problem of
a) Told to "insert a disk" when it's a removable drive
b) Problems that sound like he doesn't understand why/what drive letters are appearing

Those types of problems can be caused by the large #of USB mass storage drivers still lying around in
Windows for devices once installed but long since removed and unplugged. (The USB driver is only deleted when the device is uninstalled. Not when the device is simply removed/unplugged.) Windows letter assignments are saved along with the data associated with the driver. Lots and lots of old stale drvers (with old stale drive letter assignments) can cause Windows to get confused.

A good way to start with these types of multi-symptom problems is Cleanup and removing old Mass Storage drivers. (It also a multi-purpose tool as it also fixes drive letter conflicts betweem present and non-present devices - since it removes all their old drivers (and origingal drive letter assignments).

After following the instructions, just plug your devices back in for clean/fresh device re-installs. (Also a good starting point if any further debugging still required)
