Solved Remove All Security Features from Windows 7

Hi there
Actually for half a Eurocent I agree with you (the OP) -- 99% of Paid for AV Software" is a pile of dog poo and doesn't actually do any significantly better than Free AV software.

If you don't need to connect to the internet then just don't install any AV software and switch off UAC.

I've long been a HATER of paid for AV packages such as Norton or Macafee which are invariably installed on corporate laptops.

I wouldn't recommend running with NO av software however if your machine has Internet access -- MSE works just as well as most of the other AV software people on this forum suggest stuff and is FREE.

I've been using computers since before probably most of the members on this Forum were even born and have NEVER suffered a virus infection -- using your computer intelligently is probably far more effective than any amount of AV software in the first place.

I tend to use a Virtual Machine when downloading stuff from the Internet or installing new software. When (and if) it works I then migrate this to a real machine.

If it doesn't work I just trash the VM --nothing lost !!.

Cheers
jimbo

XP Availability

Hi There,
As an alternative to some of the other options, you may consider staying with Windows XP. The software is still available from the Microsoft embedded group and will continue to be available for years to come. It will at least buy you enough time to find a reasonable solution. XP support from Microsoft has now been terminated but the product is still available - and with the number of years that you've been building this product - it doesn't sound like you'll be needing any support or updates.
