Solved Remove Buzz From Video File

I just got a DVD of our wedding. I used Handbrake to convert it to an M4V file. In the background there is a terrible, annoying buzzing sound. I need some way to remove that without spending a grand on video editing software.

You don't need a video editing software, you need an audio editing software

By the way, can you hear the sound on the DVD itself or does it appear only after converting the video?

From what I've read, I have to open the video file in a video editor, then separate out the audio track, edit the audio track, then clean it up and put the clean track back into the video. When I use Windows Live Movie Maker, there is no separate audio track.

The sound is also on the DVD. It's the buzz of a really bad audio system.

Ok, Handbrake recommended MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD to .dv format. We'll see how that goes.

Well, apparently Movie Maker doesn't like .dv files. I'll have to try again after work.

Get a splitter for that M4V file you got and extract the audio stream from there if you like the quality of the ripped video, as well as audio, then use a program like Sound Forge to edit the audio. It's a very powerful program, THE best on the Windows platform, and you can get a 30 day trial and try to remove the buzz.

I would recommend Audacity, which is an atrocious open-source solution, but Sound Forge is your best bet if you don't actually want to keep using it further than just editing the sound from the DVD you got now. Like I said, you got 30 days, might as well get rid of it once you're done, if you don't want to actually buy it.

Wow, Soundforge is amazing. Following some simple instructions I removed ALL the buzz without hurting the preacher's voice at all. Now I just have to remove the bad audio track from the video in put the nice clean track in. And now I know what "demxing" is; learn something new every day.

I would recommend MKVtoolnix, it is a great open-source muxer that will spare you a lot of time and nerves, and it works great for H264 video and MP3/AAC/OGG audio streams
