so "convenience" rollup .msu also comes with several telemetry updates (who would've guessed ^^ )

especially KB2999226 & KB3118401 (both describe as "C runtime" updates but truth is they add very deep telemetry)

problem is when installing the rollup, then trying (with wusa.exe) to uninstall those 2 components individually, windows says each time that those updates are not installed! (because I install the rollup instead of the included update individually)

so is there any way to remove those components?
preferably from the rollup .msu file itself ie. before installing the rollup
(a bit like removing files from a zip archive)

Hi 7.5
sure you can.

Each Kb is made up of Packages, you can remove individual packages with DISM,
or sfcFix (1) NOT windows sfc.....

Its just finding the right package
There is a tool called KB Extracter which can help you identify it
Windows Update - Extract an Update - Windows 7 Help Forums

Farbar (FRST) also has an excellent registry search function
(this will also identify HKLM entries and the associated winsxs entries)
Pop over to the other forum i mentioned, have a look at how/what they do with FRST and (1),
they are extremly powerfull tools

How stable the OS is afterwards is another matter, and whether it will update next time round.

cool so suppose I know that KB2999226 & KB3118401 are inside the convenience rollup (Windows6.1-KB3125574-v4-x64.msu) how do I remove it?

not from the install.wim file I mean from the msu?

in other words how do I remove several msu's from a bigger msu?

-> so here, how do I remove KB2999226 & KB3118401 from KB3125574? :geek:
(to get a new KB3125574-v4-x64.msu that doesn't have KB2999226 & KB3118401 which are bad KBs)

Unfortunately KB3125574 isnt exactly a custom install. Given that, uninstall your present KB3125574 and then check for updates again, and see what you get offered.

I only do offline installs ^^ (msu files)
read too much about 7's online updates

anyway the rollup ain't a custom install that's why I wanna know if it's possible to modify the rollup .msu file itself to remove components inside it
