Remove Desktop Icons Labels

Is it possible to remove the labels that appear below the desktop icons? In other words, have only the icon display, no word or words below it? Thanks.

I'm not too sure if it can be done with the desktop, but if you have a Thumbnail view set for a folder, you can right-click an unused area (not containing any icons), point to view then select the "Hide file names" option.
