Remove Google Toolbar/Microsoft Interactive Training before Upgrade?

I purchased Windows 7 upgrade yesterday and tried to upgrade my Vista Home Premium to Windows 7. The install stopped with an error message that I needed to uninstall Google Toolbar and Microsoft Interactive Training before the upgrade could complete. But neither of those programs are listed in the Control Panel. I wrote to Windows 7 support and guess what, they wrote back that I needed to call an MS number and that I might be charged for the service. I HAVE TO PAY TO MS TO INSTALL MS SOFTWARE I PURCHASED? AND PAY TO UNINSTALL MS SOFTWARE THAT IS PREVENTING THE UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 7? Before I return the software and stay with this @$%#$ Vista I'll try one more time. Can anyone out there help me get rid of those two programs?

As you are finding, an in-place Upgrade is an inferior install which imports corruption from Vista into your new Win7.

It is much better to start fresh with a clean install. Back up your files, make your Vista Recovery Disks in case you ever want to restore to factory condition, then wipe the HD for cleanest slate:

The installer is driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Any drivers then missing can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or device. Only change drivers if performance dictates, starting with chipset and display.

Install programs slowly to gauge performance after each. Don't let programs write themselves into msconfig>Startup as they become freeloaders on RAM/CPU to spy on you. I only allow AV and gadgets.

Run a lean mean AV which doesn't bloat your OS like free MS Security Essentials.

After it is done, clean and order your HD perfectly with state-of-the-art CCleaner ("Run Cleaner" and Registry tabs) then Auslogics Disk and Registry defraggers monthly.

Then save a backup image externally so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage the HD or replacement in 15 minutes from DVD Repair console using stored image.
