How can I remove irrelevant fonts from my PC
ie, I only want English language fonts

In Win7 64 bit there are a lot of non English fonts.
Choosing a font in programs is laborious when I have to scroll thru a lot of irrelevant fonts.
eg, "Batang Regular" cannot be deleted
I can copy it to another folder -- but when I try to delete the original file, Win7 shows an alert ...
Code:
Delete Font
Batang & BatangChe & Gungsuh & GungsuhChe cannot be deleted because it is a protected system font
[ ] Don't show this message again [Close]
Why does MS no longer allow me to inspect font file properties eg, Arial ?
I want to know the file type, ttf, ttc, otf etc

Thank you

Batch file in reply by user "support-ing" removed 149 fonts from a test Windows 7 Virtual Machine tho I imagine they'd likely be replaced if you need to run sfc /scannow or a repair install at any point.

Here's how to see what type font it is. Double click the font icon and it will show in the title bar of the font's display.
Batang isn't a foreign font though.

And keep in mind that some Web sites may not look right after uninstalling some of the Fonts. The only program I've run into the last dozen or so years that had warnings about too many installed Fonts has been Microsoft Works [but it has been discontinued]. Works doesn't like having more than 500 Fonts installed.

Hi Urthboundmisfit :)

Thank you for the link to Removing foreign language fonts - Microsoft Community.
Absolutely best info I have seen in over a year of on-and-off casual research. :geek:
The MS-Community thread 100+ posts started on 31-Oct-2009 ... most recent post 15-May-2014 ... offering mixed results.
Five years and the problem persists in Win-8.1

I have been managing Fonts since Windows 3.0 through to Win-XP. The latter was a dream to manage Fonts, but Win-7 + Win-8 have created a bloat-field with totally (for me) irrelevant and (near) duplicated fonts that I am stuck with.
MS appear to be going down the Win8 path ... super-size me.

I have read the first 2 pages of 10 ... a lot to digest.
When I get time to wade through all posts and experiment I will get back here with possible solutions.
Some reports of scannow reinstating "missing" fonts ... shudder ... and another offering, a batch file to remove some 120+ fonts.
That is remove -- not hide -- I hope (Not for the inexperienced nor feint hearted)
Persistent fonts all hinge on MS locking-up some family-fonts and standalone fonts as System fonts, just to make life more frustrating.

Any other relevant contributions to this thread would be appreciated. :)

I have need of about 10 fonts at most. (and that includes for AutoCad)
What MS have not yet "got" is the need of a font that that CLEARLY distinguishes between big-eye, one and small-el ... and ... big-oh and zero ... all confusion territory for serial numbers, etc. Particularly critical (for me) in Excel.
Even older fixed width fonts are unclear (Courier New, big-oh and zero are identical)
My solution: "Inconsolata" (san-serif font) free.
Took me two days to find, there are lots of variations of "Inconsolata"

Font:= Inconsolata
- Link caption:= [Open Type File]

I see that too with w7. I suspect the pages are rendering what has been coded to the page, although sometimes they are little empty rectangles.

Those little empty rectangles (and sometimes big ones) keep me guessing at times.
I disable Adblocker in my browser (Palemoon) ... refresh the web page with F5 ... sometimes it works, and sometimes not.
Developer of Palemoon (mozilla based browser) suggests some web pages are poorly constructed and will never render completely.

Its all hit and miss. I fall back to IE on the rare occasions a web page does not render.
I actually don't remember the last time I had to use IE ... last year 2013 ?

What does frustrate sometimes is controls not rendered because of zealous Adblocker.
But I am not giving up on Adblocker, some web pages are impossible to endure with all the screen activity.
The majority of web pages are OK.

... irrelevant fonts
The Microsoft Community discussion Removing foreign language fonts is heavy going but I hope it bares fruit.
