Remove Win 7

I had Windows 7 installed and it is seriously draining the battery life on my HP laptop. After it is unplugged from the wall, less than 10 minutes, I have less that 5% battery life yet. So now I just want to uninstall it and put XP back on.

This is where the problem starts... I go into the properties of my computer, get to the my C drive under manage and right click on the hard drive to reformat but it is "grayed" and I am unable to select it to start the reformat!!!

Can someone, anyone please tell me how can I remove 7 and go back to XP.

First off, I think that maybe you should take a look at this tutorial to make sure your power plan is the way you want.

Next if you had any other problems with Windows 7 you could post them in this forum and they will get sorted out for you. I think sorting out the issues you have with Windows 7 and keeping it will be good for you in the long run.

If, however, you really want to go back to XP I'll write down the steps and try and remember everything.
Keep in mind that these steps are for keeping files only and you would need to install any programs when you get XP running.

1) Get a disk with XP on it and make sure that you activate it the genuine way
2) Create a partition with this tutorial
3) Transfer all the files you want to keep onto the partition created in step 2 (Make sure you have everything you need backed up!!)
4) Perform a clean install

And that should be it. Like I said, try and work the issues out with Windows 7 first and use XP as your last resort because it will be outdated shortly.

ALSO, wait for some other replies because someone might add something that I've missed or will suggest a dfferent way.

just wondering....your issues maybe related to the battery management on your HP...u might need to download it from the HP website and install it...Windows 7 will probably not do that automatically...

Agree, check the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer as there is likely a power management app that needs to be downloaded if you did a clean install of Win7.

The HD cannot format itself while it is running. Use the XP installer.

Thank you very much Redsoxm16, BadHairSpray and Gregrocker. I truly appreciate your expertise and assistance. I will try the battery plan option first with hopes that it will work for me otherwise I will go back to XP on my laptop and perhaps purchase a desktop with Win7.
