Hi,
I am not sure if this is the write place to post this message if not then please tell me where to :) I have a 2GB EMTEC U3 Smart Drive USB Device (PEN DRIVE). It is write protected, I want to remove write protection. Please tell me how to do it. I have tried to look for it on the internet but nothing seems to be working :( I tried changing registry but that too didn't work. Can't make any changes to the drive. Can't format it cant copy or paste. Please give me a detailed reply with all the possible solutions for this problem.

Thanks,
chinu

Have you looked carefully on the sides of your flash for any small levers or a button maybe that can be switched to remove your protection.

This seems to be a common problem when the USB pen drive goes bad. One of my friend has to throw away a pen drive (16 GB) which had the same problem. He can not format it nor write new files nor delete any files on it.

If you have warranty for this pen drive, I suggest you to return for warranty replacement.

Recent addition to my toys are Asus Transformer Pad TF300T with 32GB onboard sd card + 32GB microsd card.
There is no switch to turn of the protection. This is an old usb drive which I wasn't using for a while because of the same reason. I was thinking of using it as a ready boost so wanted to format it. I don't actually know how and when this started.

This seems pretty much a hardware problem, which can't be repaired. Can you try out the drive on any other systems? The best would be to try it with windows xp or something old.
